Terris v. Meisner, 2025 NSSC 84

The Nova Scotia Supreme Court awarded the plaintiff registered nurse $60,000 general damages against the defendant over defamatory statements she made in a news media interview about a hospital incident.  News articles reporting the interview were posted on the defendant’s Facebook timeline.   The defendant also appeared on television news channels and repeated the defamatory statements.  The court stated that nothing “gave the defendant licence to unfairly and harshly single out the plaintiff, identify her in a public forum, and undertake a campaign to destroy her reputation.”
