Morin v. Morasse, 2026 QCCQ 2606
The Quebec Court awarded the plaintiffs an aggregate total of $20,486.93 against the defendant relating to defamatory posts, harassment and infringements of privacy committed under various pseudonyms. The anonymous posts appeared on the plaintiff Morin’s professional Facebook page, the Facebook page of her employer, and Facebook pages created by the defendant specifically to serve as vehicles for her attacks. The plaintiff Morin was awarded $4,000 for loss of income, $9,000 for general damages, $1,000 punitive damages, various modest sums for out-of-pocket expenses. The plaintiff Denis was awarded $4,000 for loss of income, $1,500 general damages, and $200 special damages. Counterclaims by the defendant were dismissed. The Court relied largely on circumstantial evidence in linking the defendant to most of the defamatory expression.
