Landry v. Bernard, 2025 QCCQ 1701

The Court of Quebec awarded the plaintiff $20,000 compensatory damages and $10,000 punitive damages over four defamatory posts by the defendant on his Facebook page in May, June and August, 2019. The defendant was the chief of a band with approximately 1,570 members and the defamatory posts appeared in a tense context where the role of the plaintiff as registrar was under scrutiny by everyone and the compilation of the electoral lists was a hot topic.
