Kinnarath v. Choiselat et al, 2025 MBKB 34

The Manitoba Court of King’s Bench of Manitoba awarded the plaintiff, a self-described activist, nominal general damages of $5,000 and aggravated damages of $5,000 over two defamatory Facebook posts and a single defamatory Tweet on Twitter.  The court held that the impact on the plaintiff was minimal.  In assessing damages, the Court also took into account the plaintiff’s own posts on social media, which the court characterized as reprehensible. Aggravated damages were awarded to the plaintiff because the defendant never apologized or retracted their accusations.
