C, et al, v P.B., 2025 ONSC 4678
The Ontario Superior Court, assessing damages after a default judgment, awarded damages as follows:
- $350,000 general damages and $1000 aggravated damages to the corporate plaintiff;
- $300,000 general damages and $100,000 aggravated damages to the individual plaintiff A.B.;
- $100,000 general damages and $50,000 aggravated damages to each of six other individual plaintiffs.
One other plaintiff died before judgment was rendered.
The defamatory attacks were made on a website with 1200 followers. A linked X account had 4,148 followers.
Posts also appeared on other social media accounts owned and operated by the defendant.
