Miranda v. Balita Media Inc., 2026 ONCA 223

The Ontario Court of Appeal affirmed a $250,000 award of defamation damages but varied the scope of a sweeping permanent injunction granted by the trial judge.  The appellants unsuccessfully argued on appeal that the awards of $150,000 general damages and $100,000 punitive damages relating to highly defamatory Facebook posts in 2022 were excessive.  The trial judgment is accessible at 2025 ONSC 2331.   https://www.canlii.org/en/on/onsc/doc/2025/2025onsc2331/2025onsc2331.html
