Connective Support Society v. Melew, 2025 YKSC 49

The Yukon Supreme Court awarded the plaintiff $50,000 general damages over defamatory allegations by a former employee made in nearly 90 Facebook posts over an 18 month period starting in July 2023. The Court noted that the reach of the defendant’s Facebook page was unknown, whether the posts were shared was unknown, and the defendant was not an established news source or institution. The defendant had refused to retract or apologize and violated an interlocutory injunction. The Court granted the plaintiff’s request at trial for a permanent injunction.
