Moen et al v. Mackay et al, 2024 SKKB 206

The Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench awarded 5 plaintiffs general damages aggregating $27,000 over two defamatory Facebook posts in April 2023. Noting this case did not involve a “campaign” of defamation, and that the only post which expressly named the plaintiffs was taken down within two days, the Court stated it was “not prepared to award significant general damages.” The Court distinguished other cases where the defamatory statements threatened or potentially impacted the livelihoods of the affected individuals.
